As of the moment, Hubble is still one of the most advanced equipment of the National Aeronautics Space Agency, although its predecessor, James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), has already arrived.

This time, the Hubble Space Telescope recorded an unusual galaxy collision that led to the formation of the so-called “Space Triangle.”

“The interacting galaxy duo is collectively called Arp 143. The pair contains the glittery, distorted, star-forming spiral galaxy NGC 2445 at right, along with its less flashy companion, NGC 2444 at left,” said NASA via its official NASA Goddard YouTube channel.

NASA Hubble Captures ‘Space Triangle’

NASA’s latest YT video shows how the Space Triangle came to be. In the footage, you will see that the galaxy (NGC 2445) on the right has a triangular shape.

Meanwhile, the galaxy (NGC 2444) on the left has a common shape, which is a circular one.

Julianne Dalcanton, an astronomer from the Flatiron Institute’s Center for Computational Astrophysics, explained that the collision between two galaxies always forms rings of new stars.

But, Dalcanton and other space experts are still confused by the activity of NGC 2444 and NGC 2445 created a triangular star formation instead of an oval or circular display.

Why Space Triangle Formed

According to NASA’s official report, the Space Triangle formed because the two galaxies are too close to one another.

The international space union added that NGC 2444 is still attached to the gravitational pull of NGC 2445, leading to distortion of the star ring of the larger galaxy.

Aside from this, another reason involves the possibility of an invisible hot halo gas of NGC 2444. If this theory is correct, experts said that the two galaxies still remain connected to one another.

Right now, the Space Triangle is still visible. But, there’s a high chance that this star ring formation will change its shape once the two galaxies are freed from their each other’s gravitational pulls.
