Blue Origin to Double Space Flights in 2022

As per a news story by Space News, the chief executive of Blue Origin, Bob Smith, said during the 24th Annual FAA Commercial Space Transportation Conference that the space firm is working to meet the “very robust” demand for commercial space missions.

The Blue Origin chief executive said that “the market is robust. It’s very robust.” On the other hand, the space firm is facing a shortage in its supply, noting that “no business ever wants to be supply-limited when there’s robust demand.”

As such, the Bezos-led space company is now on its way to boosting its space flights for this year.

Space News noted in the same story that for the first year of the New Shepard vehicle of Blue Origin, it only flew 14 people to space in total for its three flights.

VAN HORN, TEXAS – JULY 20: Jeff Bezos speaks about his flight on Blue Origin’s New Shepard into space during a press conference on July 20, 2021 in Van Horn, Texas. Mr. Bezos and the crew that flew with him were the first human spaceflight for the company.

The first launch of the Blue Origin rocket only had four passengers, similar to its second mission to space. On the other hand, its third launch and its last for 2021 monumentally carried a total of six passengers.

According to a recent report by Space.com, the maximum passenger capacity of the Blue Origin New Shepard is only six. Thus, its December space mission has already maxed out the number of people that it could launch to space.

New Shepard Rocket to Increase Blue Origin Space Flights?

This 2022, the space firm by the Amazon founder plans to double its 2021 figures.

The chief executive of Blue Origin boldly claimed that they could “easily double” the number of people that would be flying to space for 2022.

To do so, Smith says that Blue Origin is now working to build more space vehicles that would soon be ready to “safely go fly.”

Smith went on to disclose that the new vehicle that the space firm is looking to launch this year is expected to help boost its space flight this year.

In turn, it could further propel Blue Origin to reach its goal of doubling the number of people that it would be flying to outer space.
